HALIFAX, NS - Community activist and long-time Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank resident Cheryl Newcombe has re-joined the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia and will seek the party’s nomination in her local constituency to stand as a candidate in the next provincial election.

Newcombe, who had previously served on the NDP provincial executive, says she is inspired by new PC Party leader Jamie Baillie. “Jamie has a positive vision for our province and the leadership abilities to make it a reality,” she said. “He understands that we need to build a stronger economy that will allow Nova Scotia to thrive.”

Newcombe says she didn’t make the decision to leave the NDP lightly. “Darrell Dexter means well, but if we are to move the province forward we need new leadership,” she said. “I believe Jamie Baillie will get Nova Scotia going in the right direction again.”

Outside of politics, Newcombe is also an active professional and community leader, as well as a proud Foster Mom. Cheryl has served on the board for the Halifax Regional Water Commission,  HRM Regional Plan Advisory Committee, Beacon House Interfaith Food Bank Society, and is currently a member of the Human Resource Association of Nova Scotia, Fall River Ratepayers Association,  the Halifax Stanfield International Airport Authority, Trade Centre Limited and she is the Program Coordinator at her local community centre, the Windsor Junction Community Centre.

Newcombe believes her experience makes her uniquely qualified to be the Member of the Legislature for the residents of Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank. “I believe Nova Scotia needs strong new leadership to ensure that better days are ahead of us,” she added. “I want to be part of a government that will fight for jobs and opportunity for the residents of Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank and all of Nova Scotia.
